How Many WordPress Plugins Are There?

  • WordPress

Probably way more than you think!

WordPress has more than 60k plugins just on its free repository.

Another estimated 30k between all remaining commercial plugins. Some of them are concentrated in a couple of marketplaces:

  • CodeCanyon: ~5200
  • WooCommerce official store: ~800
  • CodeGrape: ~300
  • Codester: ~260
  • Yith themes: ~100

The rest typically comes as standalone themes or plugins, or as a variety of thousands of themes, or a collection of dozens of plugins from a specific developer or company, such as:

  • Themeforest: ~12000 themes
  • TemplateMonster: ~4700 themes
  • CreativeMarket: ~4000 themes
  • Master Bundles: ~700 themes
  • Yootheme: 43 themes
  • SkyVerge: 46 plugins
  • Plugin Hive: 28 plugins
  • Awesome Motive: 27 plugins
  • Plugin Republic: 20 plugins
  • WeDevs: 20 plugins
  • WP Web: 17 plugins
  • Iconic WP: 14 plugins
  • WPMUDev: 11 plugins
  • Brainstormforce: 10 plugins
  • WP Manage Ninja: 9 plugins
  • StellarWP: 6 plugins
  • WP Media: 3 plugins

That’s one of WordPress’ key strengths. That massive number of plug-and-play features you can get for free or for a fair price.

Keep the following in mind while looking for plugins:

  • Quality varies depending on the developer’s skills.
  • Make sure that any free plugin is actively maintained before using it.
  • Paid plugins will most likely be maintained, updated, and upgraded periodically.
  • Paid plugins offer at least six months of support and one-year updates.
  • Always look for unlimited use and lifetime upgrades if you need to invest in a paid plugin.
