Animation-induced load
- Rendering
Problem Summary
Animation-induced load happens when visual effects, sliders, scroll animations, counters, or page transitions consume too much browser work during or after page load.
Performance Impact
- Poor INP: Heavy animations can delay user interactions
- Jank: Frames drop when JavaScript and rendering compete
- Higher CPU usage: Mobile devices suffer first
- Delayed LCP: Animated hero elements can postpone stable rendering
How to Detect
- Chrome Performance panel: Record loading and interaction traces
- DevTools Rendering: Enable paint flashing and FPS meter
- PageSpeed Insights: Check long tasks and main-thread work
Solutions
1. Animate Cheap Properties
Prefer transform and opacity over width, height, top, left, filter, or box-shadow.
2. Remove Nonessential Effects
Keep animation for feedback and orientation, not decoration on every section.
3. Respect Reduced Motion
@media (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce) { * { animation: none !important; transition: none !important; } }4. Avoid Animation During LCP
Do not animate the main hero image, headline, or primary content before it is visible.
