No object caching

  • Caching

Problem Summary

Object caching stores database query results in memory for faster retrieval. Without it, identical queries hit the database repeatedly. WordPress defaults to non-persistent object cache (each page load starts fresh).

Performance Impact

  • Repeated queries: Same data queried on every page load
  • Database overload: High query volume slows server
  • No query result caching: Fresh queries every request
  • Poor scalability: Performance degrades with traffic

How to Detect

  1. Query Monitor: Shows high query count
  2. Debug bar: Shows object cache misses
  3. Server metrics: High MySQL CPU usage

Solutions

1. Install Redis Object Cache

Code
// Install Redis serversudo apt install redis-server// Use Redis Object Cache plugin

2. Use Memcached

Code
// Install Memcachedsudo apt install memcached// Use Memcached Object Cache plugin

3. Configure Object Cache Drop-in

Drop object-cache.php in wp-content/

4. Hosting with Object Cache

Many managed hosts include object caching.
